There is an element of risk in all we do. So, we need to educate seafarers to think about risk, to UNDERSTAND risk – and this skill can be taught.
This one-day module will examine the cognitive psychology model, where the focus is on the ‘cognition’ (understanding) of risk in the workplace, and the accompanying psychological processes required for full understanding. The human perception of risk is a complex process and how the human mind processes that information, is essential in understanding why workers often take risks that would seem strange in hindsight.
This workshop will focus on:
- Introduction to the Ramsey Model – in particular: perception and cognition of risk
- Perception
- Cognition
- Decision-making and ability
- Human performance and information processing
- Practical case studies
